This blanket was originally designed when blue sky alpacas organic cotton was available in only the 4 or 5 organic colors. The torn cotton fabric edge still works well and adds a personal touch with the fabric you choose.
Now with all of the colors available to choose from, the possibilities are endless. Crochet a second color around the edge, follow the directions for the fabric edge using 2 strands of yarn at the same time.
Finished measurement: aprox 33 x 26”
Yarn: blue sky alpaca’s organic cotton (worsted weight; 100% organic cotton; 50 gr = 150 yds): color #80 - 5 skeins. A half yd of any 100% cotton fabric, go for intense colors as the fabric is knitted, it twists and the right side of the fabric is often on the inside of the twist therefore the colors do not appear as intensely. Prewash the fabric and tear 1” strips. Tear horizontally from one selvage edge to the other. Stitch the strips together, end to end, by machine or with a few hand stitches. It sounds more daunting than it is! Press and roll fabric into a ball.
Needles: size 6 us (4mm) for the blanket and size 13 us (9mm) for the knitted trim.
